Low back pain sufferers often have an unusual posture and gait. This has resulted in the idea that if their posture and gait could be corrected, perhaps it would relieve the pain. However, research hasn't established that treatments for gait and posture are any more effective than general exercise in reducing pain.1 Two researchers commented: So far it is not known whether the changes in posture maintain or elicit pain problems, or whether they are a mere consequence of the pain and an adaptation in posture.
2 I wonder, why a “mere” consequence? I do try to stand up straight and so forth, partly because I feel better when I do, and partly because I don't want to advertise my problem.
