Studies have shown that in a given month 9 to 12% of people experience hip pain. Hip pain is more prevalent as we age.
Of patients who consulted their primary care doctor for new hip pain, 44% had osteoarthritic signs in their radiographic images. However, there was no correlation between the amount of arthritic damage seen in the image and the patient's quality of life. Nearly one quarter of those who consulted their doctors for hip pain were awaiting surgery four years later.1
